WILBUR, Ind. (WISH) — A Martinsville woman died Wednesday morning in a crash in an unincorporated Morgan County community, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday afternoon in a social media post. Investigators think Pamela Hampton, 69, was killed just before 10 a.m. Wednesday when her no rthbound 2001 Honda Accord reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of a 2013 GMC pickup at the intersection of State Road 142 and Wilbur Road. The pickup driver, Andrew Wehrling, 20, of Mooresville, was traveling east on State Road 142. His truck was pulling a trailer loaded with lawn maintenance equipment. Wehrling tried to avoid Hampton’s vehicle but struck the Accord in the driver’s side, investigators believe. Hampton was the only person in her car. A dog in Hampton’s car survived and was checked out at a veterinary clinic. Wehrling and his male passenger were not injured in the collision. As investigators continued their work, Wehrling submitted to a chemical test, which is mandated by law. The intersection was closed for about three hours for the crash investigation and cleanup. Wilbur is about a 40-minute drive southwest of downtown Indianapolis. ...read more read less
