As a Summit County Council candidate, I am often asked, “What sets you apart?” It’s an important question. We are facing tremendous growth pressures, a changing natural environment, and an increasingly complex financial outlook. The council makes the best decisions when individual members bring distinct perspectives that inform the group as a whole. Professional financial experience is a skill set that will not be represented by any Summit County councilor in January 2027.   The county’s financial interests are large and growing more complicated. The council oversees a $100 million annual operating budget, sets tax policy, and makes major capital expenditures on behalf of residents. Nearly every major council action has a financial consideration. My goal would be to ask the tough questions, weigh the details against the bigger picture, and ensure residents are getting good value for what they are putting in. I hold a degree in finance, have worked as a financial analyst at large financial institutions, and run an investment partnership. As a fiduciary, I’ve been legally and ethically obligated to act in the best interest of others before myself. I’ll bring the same to the council. Another point of differentiation for District 4 and Snyderville Basin residents is public service with a transparent and proven track record. I’ve served six years on the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission, working through complex land use and planning decisions. I’ve listened to residents, represented their interests, and addressed real community needs. I voted against overdevelopment, while voting for practical community solutions. We have opportunities to make thoughtful, cautious and impactful growth decisions, but we must oppose transformational growth if we want to preserve what makes our home so special. I am a Utah native and have lived in Summit County for nearly 14 years with my family.  I am committed to lasting solutions that will benefit generations to come. Thank you for the opportunity to earn your vote. John Kucera The post Differentiated candidate appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
