Knicks parade forecast: Should fans prepare for wet weather on Thursday?
Jun 16, 2026
If you’re planning to attend the championship parade on Thursday to honor the New York Knicks, be prepared for some wet weather.
Showers and storms will be moving through the region in the morning, with some stronger – possibly severe – storms later in the afternoon.
Temperatures w
ill be in the 70s when the parade starts, with pockets of showers moving through the region for most of the morning. It may not be raining everywhere all the time, but expect periods of rain especially during the early part of the parade.
Skies could dry a bit closer to noon.
Plan accordingly by bringing a poncho or rain jacket to stay dry when the rain moves through.
Some of the stronger pockets of rain could come with thunder and lightning, too. With temperatures in the 70s, the atmosphere will probably not be unstable enough to generate severe weather in the morning. However, between about 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 80s, which means stronger to severe storms are much more likely.
Damaging straight-line winds will be the main threat from these storms, along with heavy downpours that could cause hazardous driving and isolated flooding.
Expect breezy and increasingly humid conditions, too. Winds will gust to 25-30 miles per hour, and in the canyons of Lower Manhattan they could easily be much higher.
The threat of potential severe weather begs the question: Could the parade be canceled due to weather? According to the city, it’s possible.
The city said that “depending on severity” there is a chance the time and the date could be changed. As of Tuesday night, the parade was still scheduled for 10 a.m.
Once a cold front moves through Thursday night, conditions will improve drastically, with pristine summer weather returning to the region from Juneteenth through the Father’s Day weekend.
