MARSHALL COUNTY, IND. (WOWO) Two people are facing drug-related charges after a traffic stop in Marshall County led to the discovery of suspected narcotics, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. The arrests occurred Sunday night after deputies responded to a report of a possible theft involving a vehicle that had left the scene. Traffic stop follows theft report According to investigators, law enforcement received a report at approximately 11 p.m. regarding a suspected theft. Deputies later located the vehicle described in the complaint and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Veterans Parkway. Authorities identified the driver as 37-year-old Dustin Singleton. The vehicle’s passenger was identified as 44-year-old Heather Egger. K-9 alerts during investigation During the stop, a police K-9 alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Deputies conducted a search and reported locating suspected illegal drugs. Investigators also alleged that Egger was in possession of suspected narcotics. Theft allegation determined unfounded While continuing their investigation, deputies determined that no theft had actually occurred. Despite the initial report being unfounded, authorities said evidence collected during the traffic stop led to the arrests on separate drug-related allegations. Charges filed against suspects According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Egger was booked into the Marshall County Jail on the following preliminary charges: Unlawful Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe Possession of Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug Possession of a Controlled Substance Possession of Marijuana with a Prior Drug Conviction Singleton was booked on the following preliminary charges: Unlawful Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe Possession of Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug Possession of Marijuana Investigation continues Court records regarding initial hearings, bond amounts, or attorney information were not immediately available. As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
