As a former Summit County Council member and council chair, I have spent many years thinking about what makes an effective elected official. The challenges facing Summit County rarely have simple solutions. They require sound judgment, a willingness to listen, the ability to weigh competing interes ts, and the courage to make difficult decisions in the long-term interests of the community. That is why I am supporting Christie Babalis for Summit County Council. I have known Christie for many years through her involvement in our community, including her service as a board member and volunteer with several local nonprofits. We worked together in Rotary and have many shared friends and colleagues. Over the years, I have come to know Christie as someone who is deeply engaged in our community, generous with her time, and committed to service. Whether through nonprofit leadership, Rotary or her professional work, she has built a reputation for being thoughtful, prepared and someone whose judgment people trust.  Her experience as an attorney in Summit County for decades specializing in conflict resolution will have direct application to the variety of issues that arise. Like many Summit County residents, Christie and I share a deep appreciation for the open spaces, trails and quality of life that make this place special. She understands that the decisions we make today about growth, transportation, housing, water and our natural resources will shape the future of Summit County for generations.
