Crews contain warehouse fire as smoke prompts air quality concerns in Tracy
Jun 12, 2026
As crews gain control of the massive fire at a warehouse in Tracy, smoke is still creating air quality concerns in parts of the city.
Fire officials say the fire is now contained to the Medline distribution facility. More than 24 hours after the fire started, crews are making progress, despite to
ugh conditions.
“The firefighters have been working in these weather conditions of 95 degrees, sustained winds over 15 mph, and very low humidity.” Tracy Fire Deputy Fire Chief Brian Bagley said.
Firefighters say they’re now able to get much more water on the fire; that wasn’t the case when crews first arrived, with low water pressure from hydrants inside the facility and problems with the building’s sprinkler system.

Crews were also able to remove 10 to 15 tractor trailers from the property, some loaded with medical supplies.
But the impact is still being felt beyond the warehouse.
Smoke was blowing through the area of the Tracy Sports Complex as players in a local adult softball league decided whether to stay on the field.
“There’s so much chemicals that can be in the air, we can inhale that, get sick of what not,” Anthony Alexander said.
“Well, I got here and I’m like it smells worse than I thought, but at this point I’m here,” Joey Booe said.
The Valley Air District says if people can see ash or smell smoke, the advice is to stay indoors when possible.
“I’m going to go as I see fit. If I smell, I’m going to stay indoors. My son is asthmatic, so I keep him inside,” Booe said.
The city’s mayor, Dan Arriola, is also warning people not to touch fire debris, saying it could contain hazardous materials or sharp objects.
Embers are still scattered in the Tracy Hills community.
“We also are now currently street sweeping some of the debris that has occurred through this,”Arriola said. “But we are asking residents at this time to please not touch the debris.”
City officials say air quality monitoring will continue as crews keep working to fully contain the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
