Pleasant and dry start to weekend follows hot and humid week, but storms return Sunday

After a steamy and stormy stretch of weather to close out the work week, the weekend will start dry, slightly cooler, and much less humid.
A much drier air mass will move into the tri-state for much of the weekend. And, while temperatures Saturday and Sunday afternoon will top out near 90 degree
s – very hot for this time of year – there won’t be a heat index to contend with.
On Saturday, expect plenty of sunshine and no showers or storms.
If you’ve got Mets tickets or are lucky enough to have tickets to the World Cup soccer match in East Rutherford, you’ll be in great shape.
Sunday is the big Puerto Rican Day Parade, and the weather should cooperate. The parade starts at 11 a.m. and should be rain-free.
A cold front will push through the area Sunday night, generating a line of strong to severe storms that could produce damage. They are most likely to push through between late-afternoon and mid-evening.
Behind Sunday night’s front, much cooler air envelopes the Tri-State, with high temperatures near 80 degrees Monday.
