63 pools set to open for the summer in Philadelphia
Jun 12, 2026
As Philadelphia starts to heat up this summer, pools across the city are beginning to open to cool visitors off.
Mayor Cherelle Parker and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson joined Philly residents to open John B. Kelly Pool in West Philadelphia on Friday, June 12, 2026. Hunti
ng Park Pool also opened on Friday.
“We will have 63 pools open this summer, which is very exciting for Parks and Rec Philadelphia. The other seven are under construction rebuilt so they won’t be open, but we have more pools per capita than anyone in this nation,” said Susan Slawson.
The City of Philadelphia is still hiring lifeguards for its pools this summer, with 300 applications submitted and going through the process. As a result, the pools will not open at all at once.
Officials believe they are on track to meet their goal of 400 lifeguards this summer.
The Parks and Recreation Department will post a weekly schedule of what pools will open. The Department is aiming for all pools to be open by the first or second week of July.
