Early voting for Louisiana‘s June 27 election begins Friday, June 12, with U.S. Senate party primaries headlining a ballot that also will include regional and local races ranging from tax propositions to mayor’s races.
Registered voters can cast early ballots from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 12-20 excluding Sunday, June 14, and Friday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday.
In the Republican Senate primary runoff, Congresswoman Julia Letlow and state Treasurer John Fleming vie for the GOP nomination in the Nov. 3 general election.
Letlow finished first in the May 16 Republican party primary with 45%, followed by Fleming with 28% as both earned spots in the runoff. They knocked out incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy, who finished third after President Trump campaigned against him to endorse Letlow.
In the Democratic Senate primary run runoff, northeastern Louisiana farmer Jamie Davis and New Orleans businessman and Navy veteran Gary Crockett vie for the Democratic nomination in the Nov. 3 general election.
Davis finished first in the May 16 party primary with 47%, while Crockett earned his spot in the runoff by fewer than 300 votes with 26%.
The Republican and Democratic winners of their respective primaries will face each other in the Nov. 3 general election to decide who will be Louisiana’s next U.S. senator.
Deadline to request an absentee ballot for the June 27 election is June 23 by 4:30 p.m (other than military and overseas voters). Voters can request an absentee ballot online through the secretary of state’s Voter Portal or in writing through individual parish Registrar of Voters offices.
The deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted absentee ballot is June 26 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
