Jun 12, 2026
A former Ridgevue High School teacher was arrested Thursday and charged with two felonies, including sexual battery of a minor, following an investigation by Nampa police.According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigatio
n began in late May after several Ridgevue High School students reported seeing teacher Troy Wayne McFadden, 46, of Nampa, with the alleged victim at a Sonic restaurant. The student is a classmate of the witnesses.Police said they later spoke with the alleged victim, who admitted to spending time with McFadden outside of school.Investigators also obtained written statements from two students given to school administrators in late April. The notes said the student, identified in the affidavit by initials D.A.G., and McFadden were really close. The statements described the student sitting at McFaddens desk and reported physical contact that made other students uncomfortable. One note to administrators also said McFadden would assign independent classwork so he could spend one-on-one time with the student.Police said they reviewed messages between McFadden and the student after seizing the students phone. Investigators said the two exchanged "extensive messages" that could be considered inappropriate and also shared location data with each other. The victims mother told investigators that she was aware McFadden came to their home late at night.Court records show McFadden is charged with felony sexual battery of a minor between the ages of 16 and 17 involving sexual contact, as well as soliciting participation from a minor between the ages of 16 and 17.McFadden appeared in Canyon County court by video Friday. A judge set bond at $500,000 and ordered GPS monitoring if he is released from custody. He was also ordered not to consume alcohol. As part of his release conditions, McFadden was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or any minor children. He is also prohibited from going within 900 feet of the alleged victim or their residence, and within 900 feet of Ridgevue High School.Although investigators said they believe the case is isolated and have not identified additional victims, police are asking parents to speak with children who may have had contact with McFadden and report any inappropriate conduct. The Vallivue School District said McFadden is no longer employed by the district and that his contract was not renewed for the upcoming school year. The district said the reported incident occurred off campus and not at a district facility."Those who notified police of something that appeared to be out of the norm and inappropriate were brave and did the right thing," Nampa Sgt. Brad Barnum said in a statement. "With their help, we were able to stop a very dangerous situation."Idaho News 6 will continue to follow this story as more information becomes available. For Canyon County happenings, news, and more join our Facebook Group: 2C Neighborhood News - Nampa, Caldwell, MiddletonThis story has been, in part, converted to this platform with the assistance of AI.
