ng those products, even after a cease and desist letter was sent by law enforcement.
The two employees of Cloud 9 Smoke Shop near 11th and “G” Streets, 44-year-old Mirzah Meskin and 38-year-old Khalil Meskin, were arrested on Sunday and charged Monday for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Lancaster County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ben Houchin on Wednesday said this investigation began after a 17-year-old who overdosed in May 2025 on mushroom gummies he bought from Cloud 9. Houchin said the teen was in a coma for three days at Children’s Hospital in Omaha and has since recovered. He says there are concerns with products that are marketed as legal substances but potentially contain ingredients that are controlled substances.
Houchin said Sheriff Terry Wagner sent a cease and desist letter to seven smoke shops across the county, warning them to stop selling those products. Six of the seven complied, while one didn’t. That happened to be the 11th and “G” location of Cloud 9. Investigators went to that location in January to buy more products and lab test results showed products having acetylpsilocin, a Schedule One controlled substance.
Houchin says they will continue to check smoke shops and make sure those products are not on their shelves.
