Hispanic Cultural Hub Market in second year
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Hispanic Cultural Hub is taking over the AMP at 16 Tech for its monthly art market on Saturday.
Now in its second year, the market has a rotation of about a dozen vendors selling a wide range of arts and crafts. There are
even vendors on hand selling Mexican snacks for people while they shop.
Each event also includes live music and a free workshop where people can learn to make their own crafts.
Hispanic Cultural Hub co-founder Esperanza Alonzo says the group started it to give local Hispanic artists and creators a platform.
“Some of the events that [vendors are] attending are only once a year,” Alonzo said. “It’s like having a flea market, but artistic, so you want to have a space where you can come every month, and the community knows about this space.”
A lawyer during the day, Alonzo also makes and sells her own jewelry in her free time.
She says the Market also provides a consistent location for vendors in the area.
“I started joining a bunch of markets, and that’s how it started for me,” Alonzo said. “Other people came to the hub, and they saw that we had all these handmade creations, and they started coming, and now they’re part of the group.”
This month’s market will run as usual, but next month’s will have a special Frida Kahlo theme and feature upwards of 50 vendors.
The Hispanic Cultural Hub market runs from 3-7 p.m. at The Amp at 16 Tech, 1220 Waterway Blvd., Indianapolis.
The Hispanic Cultural Hub is open to new vendors. Interested artists should reach out via social media.
