A woman just made history after being selected as the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office first female operator assigned to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. On Tuesday, June 9, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Detective Kayla Dodge had qualified as the agency ’s first female operator assigned to SWAT, a regional tactical unit that is tasked with resolving high-risk incidents that require specialized police tactics, training and equipment. According to officials, Dodge is the second female operator assigned to Atlantic County SWAT, following Hamilton Township Sergeant Kristi Ware. Ware served on the Atlantic County Emergency Response Team from 2009 to 2014. “Our tactical selection standards are rigorous, scientifically validated, and uncompromising because the mission demands it,” said Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds. “Detective Dodge didn’t just meet those standards, she excelled across the board.
