A Houston transplant is out, and a hometown favorite is in at 12730 I-10 Frontage Rd. on the Northwest Side. Tiger Chinese Cuisine, the sole San Antonio location of a ubiquitous Clutch City chain, has closed, making room for a second location of Ping’s Sichuan Kitchen.Tiger Chinese arrived in San Antonio in 2022, quickly becoming popular for its soup dumplings. Evans Rd. in May 2025. "These flavors became a part of me — a warm reminder of family and belonging," she told CultureMap at the time. "They quietly planted the seeds of my dream: to create a restaurant that brings happiness and comfort to others, just as those meals did for me.”According to Xia's statement, the menu will be the same as at the first location. Diners can expect regional classics like hui guo rou (twice-cooked pork) and mapo tofu alongside Chinese-American favorites like cream cheese rangoon. And, yes, Tiger fans, soup dumplings will soon return to the spot.A representative says he is not 100 percent certain when the restaurant will be ready to open at the University Square shopping center, but hopes for a grand opening in July. San Antonians can follow Ping’s on social media for updates. ...read more read less
