WAVERLY–(KFOR June 8)–A California man is i
n a Nebraska jail cell, after being pulled over around noon time Friday and having 15 kilograms of suspected cocaine found in his vehicle.
Lancaster County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ben Houchin on Monday said members of the Criminal Interdiction Unit pulled over a westbound vehicle for following too close on Interstate 80 near Waverly. A Nebraska State Patrol K-9 unit alerted deputies to drugs possibly being in the vehicle. Houchin says deputies conducted a probable cause search and found 15 kilograms of cocaine in two suitcases in the trunk.
It’s believed the driver had been traveling to California and he also allegedly told deputies that he did not know what was in the suitcases.
“What’s really weird about this one is usually the drugs go east and the money comes west,” Houchin said.
The driver, 19-year-old Kanwal Singh of Fresno, California, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Houchin says, as packaged, the drugs were worth about $500,000, or $2 million on the street.
