Family and friends of a man whose body was found in a suitcase last month gathered Saturday afternoon to celebrate his life. The funeral service for Vincent Good comes two weeks after his remains were found in a suitcase and trash bags in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Four suspects ha ve been charged in connection with his murder. “He was a good person. He was a gentle man. He always like laughing and joking and playing around,” said Eric Shubert, Good’s cousin. “The way he went out was not the way he was supposed to go out. He had a family, a mother. He was a human being, and they treated him like he wasn’t a real human being.”   The investigation began on Friday, May 22, around 9:25 a.m., when a person who was searching for scrap metal along the 600 block of East Hilton Street found a human upper torso inside a suitcase. Police responded to the scene and found more human remains in the early stages of decomposition inside two large trash bags. The Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as 53-year-old Vincent Good of Philadelphia. Officials confirmed he died from multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators said Good was a partial amputee whose hand had been amputated above the wrist and his left leg amputated below his knee. As a result, he had to use a wheelchair. A week after the discovery of his remains, the District Attorney’s Office announced four suspects had been arrested in his murder. Good’s caregiver and girlfriend, identified as 53-year-old Liza Ridley, was accused of killing him. Authorities said members of Ridley’s family helped her dispose of his body. “I pray it is not long and drawn out,” Erica Moore, another one of Good’s cousins. “I pray that my aunt receives justice soon so that we are able to get over it, it will never go away, she will never have her son again. But that peace that says we got them. They will pay for what they did.” Investigators said Ridley and Good lived together at a home on the 5700 block of Leonard Street. On Thursday, May 21, a Lyft driver picked Ridley up and noticed she was carrying a suitcase with a strong odor, according to investigators. When the Lyft driver asked her about the smell, Ridley told her she was carrying a bag of “dirty wet clothes,” officials said. The Lyft driver dropped Ridley off but took a picture of her due to her suspicions. The driver also found a fluid stain on the floor of her vehicle after Ridley left, investigators said. The next day, after seeing a report of Good’s remains being found in the suitcase and trash bags, the driver called police and showed them a photo of Ridley, investigators said. Ridley was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 27. Investigators said she initially lied about what happened to Good before confessing to shooting and killing him. Investigators have not yet determined when the murder took place but said that based on Ridley’s confession, they believe Good had been dead for at least two weeks before his remains were discovered. Officials also said that Ridley reported to her employer on Tuesday, May 26, that Good had gone to stay with his brother in Florida and no longer needed her services. The DAO said Ridley’s sister, 55-year-old Bernadette Ridley, helped her dismember Good’s body. They also said Ridley’s daughter, 32-year-old Liza Robinson, and Robinson’s boyfriend, 33-year-old Gnaeus Daniels, cleaned up the crime scene and disposed of evidence. The other three suspects were taken into custody and charged with obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence, conspiracy to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to tampering with evidence. Bernadette Ridley was also charged with abuse of corpse and conspiracy to commit abuse of corpse. While the four suspects are charged, officials have not yet determined a motive and continue to investigate. “This case was quickly solved largely thanks to two good Samaritan Philadelphians who came forward as crucial witnesses and shared vital information with law enforcement,” Krasner said. “I want to thank ADA Cydney Pope and our law enforcement partners in the Homicide Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department for their thorough investigation, which is ongoing. In addition to prosecuting this case, my office is working to make sure trauma-informed services and resources are available to the victim’s grieving loved ones.” ...read more read less
