INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman is dead after a shooting took place Saturday afternoon on Indy’s west side, police say. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, shortly before 4:30 p.m., officers were called to the 5500 block of West 10th Street on the report of a perso n shot, which is off North Lynhurst Drive. Officers arrived to find a woman with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died. IMPD says they detained multiple people at the scene and are working to figure out what role they played, if any, in the shooting. IMPD is not referring to any of these individuals as suspects at this time. “Preliminarily, we believe that this started as a disturbance between known individuals that turned into gunfire,” Sgt. Amanda Hibschman of IMPD said. “Violence is not the answer. It is not the way to solve our problems. It doesn’t solve the problem.
