A 36-year-old man, who is unhoused, has been arrested after, officials said, he stole a carton of cigarettes from a Wawa in Dover, Delaware before taking a worker hostage and barricading himself in a room at a nearby motel on Thursday. On Friday, the Dover Police Department said Binbido Jean-Ray mond Pierre, was arrested following a spree that began when he is alleged to have robbed a Wawa located along the 2800 block of North DuPont Highway in Dover, Delaware at about 9:13 p.m. on Thursday night. At that time, police claim Jean-Raymond Pierre approached a worker at the convenience store and requested a carton of cigarettes. When the worker went to get the items, police claim, Pierre lifted his shirt to display, what appeared to be, a weapon described as a “black, shiny object,” and demanded to cigarettes. The employee complied and, police said Pierre took the cigarettes worth about $100. Following that robbery, police said, Pierre remained at the scene, “acting disorderly,” but fled before police arrived. Then, at about 11:23 p.m. that evening, at a Holiday Inn Express on the 1700 block of North DuPont Highway, about a half-mile away, police say Pierre became disorderly with hotel staff and assaulted a 22-year-old employee of the motel while displaying, what police said was a “black object.” When police arrived on this case, officials said, Pierre fled to an adjacent First State Inn and entered a hotel room without permission, where he is alleged to have barricaded himself in a bathroom with a 33-year-old man who worked at the motel while being armed with a knife. Police said Pierre threatened to kill the worker if he attempted to leave. Eventually, through negotiations, officers convinced Pierre to release the worker unharmed and he surrendered without further incident. Pierre has been arrested and charged with robbery, burglary, kidnapping and related offenses. He was taken into police custody and is being held on a $123,600 secured bond. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7111. ...read more read less
