Sisters left mom to die in her University City hideabed: SDPD

Two middle-aged sisters were arrested Thursday on suspicion of murdering their mother and severely neglecting their father — both octogenarians unable to care for themselves — in the couple’s University City apartment.
Ingrid Wu, 52, and her 53-year-old sibling, Rebecca, were caretakers of
their parents at the time of 81-year-old Kun-Ying Yang’s death three months ago, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Patrol officers responding to a report of a medical emergency late on the evening of March 6 found Yang unconscious, lying face-down in a gap between a pull-out couch and a bed frame, SDPD acting Lt. Christopher Leahy said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Postmortem examinations determined that Yang died of positional asphyxia with contributing factors, including neglect, according to police. The manner of her death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators concluded that the suspects allegedly “endangered their parents’ health and failed to act as legally required, leading to the neglect of their 88-year-old father and the death of their mother,” Leahy said.
The sisters were booked into Las Colinas women’s jail in Santee on suspicion of murder and elder abuse.
