Absentee voting for South Dakota’s Republican gubernatorial runoff begins next week
Jun 04, 2026
Absentee voting for next month’s (July 28, 2026) Republican gubernatorial runoff election in South Dakota begins Friday, June 12.
Additionally, the deadline to get registered to vote or to change party affiliation to be eligible to vote in the runoff election is July 13.
The Secretary of State’s
Office says because the Republican runoff election is a continuation of the June 2 primary, county auditors will automatically send voters who requested an absentee ballot for the primary, an absentee ballot for the runoff.
Voters who did not request an absentee ballot for the primary election but would like to vote absentee in the runoff, must submit an application to their county auditor by July 27 at 5pm local time. When completing the absentee ballot request form, voters should select “Primary Election.”
South Dakota’s Republican gubernatorial runoff election will be held Tuesday, July 28.
Voters with questions about absentee voting or runoff election procedures are encouraged to:
contact their county auditor’s office, or
visit the Secretary of State’s website, https://sdsos.gov/elections-voting/voting/assets/2026RUN-OFFCalendar.pdf.
