An investigation is underway after surveillance video captured a Philadelphia police vehicle that appeared to strike a parked car before driving off in the city’s Frankford neighborhood in April. The incident occurred on April 25, 2026, around 4:35 a.m. along the 5000 block of Ditman Street, po lice said. Officials confirmed with NBC10 on Thursday that a police vehicle was involved in a car crash that morning. A video obtained by NBC10 appears to show the police SUV striking a parked car before it drives off. Philadelphia police confirmed their Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating the incident but could not provide any other details, including the name of the officer involved. NBC10 spoke with Jordan Hobson, whose family owns the vehicle that was struck. He told NBC10 the crash ripped off the front bumper of the car which he tried to fix with zip ties. He said he’s still trying to fully repair his car more than a month later and he wants answers from the police department so that he can drive it again. Hobson said the crash not only damaged the car but also his family’s finances. “The lowest was $7700 and the highest was like 10, 11 grand,” Hobson told NBC10 when describing the cost of repairs.   In 2025, the NBC10 Investigators reviewed court records and city settlement data related to police-involved crashes. The review revealed that Philadelphia has spent more than $15 million between 2020 and 2024 settling lawsuits in crashes that the department determined were preventable. “They keep asking me for the same papers over and over and over again,” Hobson said. “I keep sending them emails over and over again. They don’t answer the phone or nothing.” Hobson told NBC10 he’s starting an online fundraiser to get the money to fix the car. Until then, he’ll keep waiting to hear back from the city. ...read more read less
