INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Scotchy Jamaican Grill and Howdy Homemade Ice Cream will host the second annual “Catch Ah Vibe – Scoop Smiles” event Saturday on Mass Avenue in downtown Indianapolis.
The gathering serves as the official post-event celebration for the NAMI
Walk 2026, bringing together participants and supporters for an afternoon focused on mental health awareness, inclusion and community connection.
Founded by Chef Marlon Llewellyn, the event was created by Scotchy Jamaican Grill and Howdy Homemade Ice Cream to unite people through food, music and conversations about mental health while also supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Sataria Carter, ice cream scientist with Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, said the event helps spotlight mental health struggles while fostering connection. “One in five Americans suffer from mental health,” Carter said. “Being a mental health survivor, loving food, loving ice cream, we partnered to bring this event every year to our city.”
Howdy Homemade Ice Cream employs individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, a mission Carter said also intersects with mental health support.
“At Howdy Homemade, we employ individuals with intellectual disabilities,” she said. “We employ them so they can have a good life and earn an income like everybody else.”
The event will feature ice cream sampling and specialty flavors, including Scotchy Jamaican Grill offerings such as rum raisin and grape nut, along with soursop and ube. Carter said the goal is to introduce global flavors to the Midwest.
Llewellyn also emphasized the importance of mental health conversations, particularly among men during Men’s Mental Illness Awareness Month.
“Having mental illness is not weakness,” he said. “A lot of times we hear that as men, so we don’t say anything. Seek help. Give support. It’s not a weakness, I promise you.”

Scotchy Jamaican Grill is currently focused on private dining and catering events under Chef Kelsey, while continuing to share family recipes across Indiana, Llewellyn said.
The “Catch Ah Vibe – Scoop Smiles” event is scheduled for this Saturday at Howdy Homemade Ice Cream on Mass Avenue and is open to NAMI Walk participants and the public for a post-walk celebration.
