Heavy Rain, Severe Storms Possible Thursday and Friday

Courtesy of Connoisseur Media Lincoln.LINCOLN–(KFOR June 4)–There’s a potential of an inch or two of rainfall from severe storms that develop Thursday afternoon and Thursday night over southeast Nebraska, especially with storms moving over the same areas.
That’s according to Dirk Petersen, a
meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Valley. He tells KFOR News while the big threat is heavy rain, there’s also the potential with other severe storms that develop, there could be large hail, gusty winds and potentially a spin up of a tornado.
“We don’t have a whole of lot of the ingredients that we get for really strong tornadoes, but anything that would happen is more likely to be short-lived. More likely to be weaker,” Petersen said.
However, the situation for severe weather is fluid for Friday.
“We’re in a really summertime pattern, where the previous day’s thunderstorms can really affect the following day’s (forecast),” Petersen added.
A flood watch is in effect until 4am Friday. More severe storms are expected for Friday night. Stay with KFOR for the latest weather information.
