The Bridgeport Correctional Center in Wise County was evacuated after a high level of carbon monoxide was detected Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The fire department is on the scene and no injuries have been reported. TDCJ technicians and the gas provider are heading to the scene to assess. Wise County Commissioner Colby Shawn stated that there was a large first responder presence at the Bridgeport men’s prison after the evacuation. Shawn said a possible gas leak could have contributed to the evacuation but the situation was under control. Wise County Emergency Services is asking for people to avoid the area.
