A firefighter and EMT of Horsham Fire Company No. 1 was fired after saying a racial slur that was transmitted over the county radio system while responding to an emergency incident, according to the fire company. The incident happened June 2 at about 4 p.m. when Horsham Fire Company No. 1 and mut ual aid partners were dispatched to an emergency call on County Line Road in Horsham Township. While responding to the incident, officials said an employee of the fire company used “offensive and unacceptable language that was transmitted over the county radio system.” NBC10 obtained audio of the broadcast, and the firefighter could be heard saying “You dumb, f—–g n—–.”  When the firefighter returned to the fire station, they were immediately terminated, officials said. Officials have not yet revealed the firefighter’s identity. “Horsham Fire Company No. 1 maintains a zero-tolerance policy for conduct that is inconsistent with our organizational values and professional standards. Following this incident, all personnel were reminded of their responsibility to conduct themselves professionally at all times, both on and off the radio,” the fire company wrote in a statement. Following this incident, officials said the fire company leadership has also arranged for sensitivity and workplace professionalism training, which will be mandatory for all employees.
