South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics will move its U.S. headquarters to Plano, the company confirmed Tuesday.
The Seoul-based company already has a sprawling footprint in the Dallas suburb, concentrated in the Legacy Central development. The campus will be designated Samsung’s U.S. headq
uarters, less than a year after the company cut the ribbon on a headquarters in Englewood, N.J.
“Samsung Electronics America Inc. is undergoing a business transformation designed to better position our organization for long-term growth and future success. As part of this effort, we are relocating our U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to our existing campus in Plano, Texas, building on our 30-year presence in the state,” the company said in a statement. “The transition, which will be completed by the end of the year, is intended to strengthen alignment across teams and offices, and sharpen our focus on the areas that will drive the greatest impact for our customers, partners, and business.”
It is unclear whether Samsung is abandoning its new 321,000-square-foot Garden State facility. According to The Korea Times, about 1,000 employees will relocate as part of the move, and the company also said it would be “optimizing parts of the organization” to align with business priorities, which will affect its people.
