A 22-year-old woman was charged with the murder of a 28-year-old man who died in his father’s arms inside their Long Island home after he was stabbed in the neck with a pocket knife, according to prosecutors.
Police said that Kristin Sculley had met up with Robert Carragher III at his family’
s home on Beaumont Avenue in Massapequa Sunday night. The two spent several hours watching television in his basement bedroom, according to police.
At some point, for reasons that are under investigation, Sculley then allegedly stabbed Carragher in his neck, striking an artery.
“He was stabbed while lying in bed,” said Nassau County Police Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo. “He climbed the stairs to seek the assistance of his mother, screaming. His mother and father came to his aid, but he died in his father’s arms.”
In court, Sculley pleaded not guilty. When prosecutors described how Carragher died, his family members cried aloud.
After Carragher was found bleeding to death in his kitchen, a massive police search ensued, with police and police dogs fanning out throughout the neighborhood. Sculley was eventually found inside the Carragher’s home, with police saying she was hiding in the lower level of the house.
As Sculley was led by detectives out of Nassau Police Headquarters in Mineola, she did not speak to reporters, but once inside the police cruiser she appeared to smile and smirk.
Friends of Carragher packed the courtroom. They said Carragher, known as Bobby to them, was a great friend and they were not sure what the relationship was between their friend and Sculley.
“It was a girl he spoke to and she has been there at his house multiple times,” said Louis Ambrosio, Carragher’s friend. “She was welcomed in by his family. She waited for my friend to fall asleep and she killed him.”
Police did not elaborate on a possible motive, but said Sculley became enraged at some point and plunged the pocket knife into Carragher’s neck, cutting an artery.
“Bobby lit up any room he went into he was the funniest person ever that ever lived,” said friend Thomas Maloney.
Sculley was charged with second-degree murder. The judge did not grant her bail. Her family declined to speak to reporters.
“No family should ever have to bear witness to their son being killed in that manner,” said Darienzo.
