Neiman Marcus’ downtown Dallas store is closing for good. A spokesperson for Saks Global, which owns the brand, confirmed to NBC 5 that the store will close on September 30. Saks Global acquired Neiman Marcus at the end of 2024 and has been embattled in bankruptcy protection. Saks Global ini tially announced a March 2025 closure for the downtown Dallas location after weeks of disputes with city leaders regarding a lease disagreement. “As we continue to take steps to secure a strong future for Neiman Marcus, our optimized store footprint is aimed at aligning our go-forward presence with customer demand and preferences. After a thorough evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas store on September 30, 2026, and concentrate our resources where our customers prefer to shop,” the statement read. The spokesperson confirmed they will be focusing support on their NorthPark Center store in Dallas. “Dallas remains an incredibly important market for the Neiman Marcus brand, and our customers in the city and across the suburbs consistently choose to shop at our NorthPark location. We are committed to serving our loyal Dallas customers at NorthPark, where we plan to infuse elements celebrating the Downtown store’s rich history,” the statement read. Saks Global said they have had conversations with the City of Dallas and confirmed that their decision to close is final. “As the Downtown Dallas retail environment has been challenged, foot traffic to this location has continued to slow over time. The NorthPark business is more than 10x larger than the Downtown,” the statement read. They also said that as they transition the downtown store to close in the fall, they plan to incorporate elements of the Downtown Dallas store and its rich history into the NorthPark location. They said that includes the Zodiac Room, which has been a destination for so many for decades, to dine downtown. They were also known for their Bridal Salon. They said they are in the process of confirming their long-term plan for the bridal salon, but plan to serve brides from the NorthPark store when the Downtown store closes. As far as impacted employees, Saks Global said transfer opportunities to nearby locations will be offered where possible and eligible employees might qualify for appropriate “separation packages”. The original Neiman Marcus store opened in downtown Dallas on September 10, 1907. That location was heavily damaged by a fire and was moved a few blocks away in 1914 to its current location at the corner of Main and Ervay Streets. ...read more read less
