PECO to raise rates by around 3.1% starting Monday, officials say
May 31, 2026
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission said that electricity price changes will be implemented across the Commonwealth on Monday, June 1, including PECO.
In an alert, the PUC said that adjustments in electric generation prices for electric distribution companies will cause PECO’s cost per k
ilowatt to increase just as the summer heat gets underway.
PECO confirmed this change on their website and said that the adjustment will bring a 3.1% increase in price per kWh, which equates to about an extra $4.94 per month for “a typical residential customer using 700 kWh per month.”
According to PECO, the increase is due to higher energy and capacity prices.
The adjustment will only impact default supply users and not customers who get their electricity from a competitive electric generation supplier who is not regulated by PUC.
“For customers who do not purchase their energy from a supplier, PECO passes supply costs through directly—at the exact price the company pays, without markup or profit,” the agency said.

PECO proposes rate hike of 12.5% to take effect next year
Both PUC and PECO officials also stressed that utility bills still vary by individual and community usage, especially air conditioning in the summer.
Earlier this year, PECO proposed a 12.5% rate hike, but revoked it after speaking with Gov. Josh Shapiro.
The utility company is also in the middle of contract negotiations with IBEW Local Union 614 — which represents PECO’s linemen, gas technicians, mechanics, call center workers, and back office workers.
The union’s workers voted to authorize a strike on Saturday, May 30, although both union and PECO officials stressed that the authorization does not mean that a strike will take place, but it gives union leaders to initiate one.
