Another break reported in Tijuana wastewater pipeline
May 30, 2026
Crews are working to repair a collapse in Tijuana’s massive pipeline that carries wastewater through Tijuana to be treated near the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Parallel Gravity Line collapsed Friday night. The cause of the collapse is unknown.
Several pumps along the border have been shut down
by Mexican authorities while crews make repair.
Residents may notice stronger odors and increased wastewater flows in the Tijuana River, according to the U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission.
Earlier this month, another leak on the Parallel Gravity Line was reported by Mexico. The commission reported that although that leak caused an increase in wastewater flows to the South Bay International Wastewater plant, no transboundary flows were reported.
The South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant is operating normally, according to USIBWC.
