Essential reminder
May 30, 2026
Every year around Pride Month, people ask the same question.
“Why does the LGBTQ+ community get a month of celebration? Why not everyone else?”
The answer is actually pretty simple.
Pride was never created because LGBTQ+ people believed they were better than anyone else. It exists beca
use for generations, LGBTQ+ people were told they were less than. Less deserving of love. Less deserving of safety. Less deserving of equal rights, visibility, dignity, and sometimes even existence.
Pride is not about superiority.
It is about survival.
It is about celebrating people who learned how to love themselves in a world that often taught them shame instead.
And right now, that matters more than ever.
The transgender community in particular has become a political target. Laws are being written about where people can go, how they can exist, what healthcare they can receive, and whether they should even be acknowledged publicly. Many LGBTQ+ people — especially trans people — are exhausted from constantly defending their humanity.
So Pride Month becomes something bigger than rainbow flags and parades.
It becomes a reminder:
You are not alone.
You are loved.
You belong here.
Pride celebrates courage.
The courage to come out.
The courage to exist authentically.
The courage to keep going when society makes you feel unwelcome.
And honestly, if one month of visibility and celebration helps even one young person to live a more authentic life, it is well worth celebrating.
