Nearly $30M investment aims to ease traffic congestion near Sports Complex

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced a nearly $30 million plan aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving safety around the Sports Complex in South Philadelphia.

The area is a major economic and entertainment hub that regularly sees heavy traffic, especially during sports games and events.
“We are kick starting multiple infrastructure projects that will tackle the biggest pain points, causing congestion for traffic moving through the complex to roadways like 76 and I-95. That includes a project adding a second left-turn lane from Front Street onto 95, which was just completed,” said Shapiro. “And a new westbound entrance ramp for 76 from 7th Street will start construction soon.”
Shapiro added that there will be an addition of a traffic operation center within the sports complex and the installation and upgrade of traffic signs in the area.
This investment represents a collaboration among state, local, and regional partners aimed at fostering long-term growth and supporting Philadelphia’s success.
