Menlo Park officer injured in crash on eastbound Dumbarton Bridge

Traffic is stopped on an eastbound stretch of the Dumbarton Bridge after a crash involving a Menlo Park police vehicle.
According to Menlo Park police, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for a vehicle tied to an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in u
nincorporated Redwood City. The vehicle was later spotted near Bay and Willow Roads in Menlo Park, where officers attempted a stop and a pursuit began.
Police said the suspect vehicle traveled through Menlo Park and onto the Dumbarton Bridge with officers in pursuit. During the incident, one Menlo Park police officer was involved in a crash with another vehicle.
The officer was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, while the other driver was not injured, police said. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle continued toward Fremont and East Bay agencies were notified to be on the lookout.
Menlo Park police are advising drivers to avoid the eastbound Dumbarton Bridge for the next hour due to what authorities described as an injury crash just west of the toll plaza.
Emergency crews are on scene and a tow truck is enroute, police said. Traffic backups and detours are expected.
