On Sunday, in the finale of the three-game series again
st the Nationals, 36,429 baseball fans watched the Braves lose their first series at Truist Park this season. The Nationals won 2-1 in a game that took more than four and a half hours top complete.
The Atlanta Braves’ offense was a complete no-show on Saturday. So much so that they didn’t have a hit until Michael Harris II managed a single in the seventh inning of that game.
The Nationals offense managed a run in the fifth inning after Nasim Nunez, who was 1-10 during this series, singled to drive in Daylen Lile, who doubled to start the inning.
Martin Perez came into the game on the heels of a 5-inning, 10-strikeout performance in Miami. Perez has experienced a rollcoaster-type of season, but continues to be ready when his number is called. This season, Perez has pitched in 11 games and started seven of those games this season.
On Sunday, he only allowed one earned run and five hits, while walking two Nationals. He left the game with two outs. Didier Fuentes came on to end the inning with a strikeout. Then the rains came. Again. The rain delay began at 6:07 p.m. and ended at 7:35 p.m. Following the delay, Reynaldo Lopez entered the game to pitch in the seventh inning. It was in the eighth inning that he gave up a single right field to Luis Garcia, Jr. that drove in James Woood from second base and out the Nationals up 2-0. Wood walked to start the inning and stole second base in order to get into scoring position.

Ronald Acuna, Jr. returned to the lineup in Miami, and has continued to struggle at the plate. He is stuck on two home runs, but has hit the ball hard. On Sunday, in his second at-bat of the game, he blasted a pitch from Washingtion starter Foster Griffin to deep center. It sounded like a home run, it ended in an out.
This is an important year for both Acuna, Jr. and the team. His contract includes team options of $17 million per season for 2027 and 2028. The oft-injured Acuna, Jr., when healthy, is one of the best and complete outfielders in Major League Baseball. During Saturday’s game, he nearly threw out a Nationals runner at third base from the right field warning track. Acuna, Jr. has seven stolen bases this season, and is barely trying to steal. Even when he’s not hitting, Acuna, Jr. in the leadoff spot gives Atlanta a mental advantage over their opponents.
In the fifth inning, Acuna, Jr., who walked during his first at-bat, and flew out to center field in his second at-bat, struck out on a 91-miles-per-hour slider from Griffin. With the Braves down 2-0 in the eighth, Acuna, Jr. forced a walk from Andrew Alvaraez with one out.
