May 21, 2026
San Jose firefighters are responding to a semi-truck with a damaged axle that is at risk of rolling over near South First Street and East Alma Avenue, officials said.
The San Jose Fire Department said the semi could potentially strike a nearby power pole. The truck is carrying an estimated 78,000
pounds of scrap metal, authorities said.
PGE plans to shut down power lines in the area as a precaution, a move expected to impact thousands of customers. Officials said the outage is expected to last at least three hours.
A Sacred Heart Community Service building adjacent to the incident has been evacuated as a precaution, officials said.
Traffic is impacted in the area, and drivers are being urged to use alternate routes.
The San Jose Fire Department said it is operating in unified command with the San Jose Police Department, PGE and the city’s Department of Transportation.
