We are here to celebrate the life of Sylviline Viola Russell (affectionately known as Tat or Aunt Tatty). She was born on December 18, 1952 in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to Rufus and Myrtle Mae Russell. She was the last of six children. Tat attended Bethlehem All Age School in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, and subsequently received a certificate in general studies from Eastern Academy in Kingston. She used her skills to work at several organizations in Kingston. She migrated to the United States in 1981 and settled in New Haven, CT. Tat worked as an inspector technician at Circuit Wise for many years and was also a certified nurse assistant. Tat was a hard worker. She was loved and respected by her employers. She went above and beyond her required duties. She was highly regarded not just as an employee but as a friend and has maintained those friendships with coworkers throughout her life. Tat had a huge personality – always very optimistic, jovial, friendly, and kind-hearted. She was the light in the room everywhere she went. She appreciated music and enjoyed singing, especially duets with her late sister, Rose. Her favorite artists were Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, and Marcia Griffiths. The later years of her life were filled with health challenges, but she always saw the silver lining. She had very supportive siblings and relatives who helped her navigate. She will be remembered for her love of storytelling, family, cooking, and sense of humor. She is survived by her siblings, Beryl, Aldith, and Lynford (Roy); nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces, and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Basil; and sister, Rose. Today, we honor the life of our sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Mount Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 335 Putnam Ave, Hamden, CT 06517.  Friends may gather Tuesday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.  Services by Howard K.
