Marcus’ 5 a.m. Thursday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Gray but dry today. Several rain chances return heading into race weekend. Gray and cool Thursday. After days of heavy rain, today finally offers a break from the active weather. Gray skies will be the rule, with cool easterly win ds. High temperatures will only top out in the upper 60s and lower 70s, which is about 5 to 10° below average for this time of year. Rain returns Friday. The quiet weather is short-lived. The frontal system that brought us the rain earlier in the week and moved south will lift back north Friday afternoon, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms with it. Much of the morning should be dry on Friday, but widespread showers and thunderstorms will begin to move in during the late afternoon and evening hours. Before the rain arrives, high temperatures will top out in the lower 70s. Unsettled for the holiday weekend. We are seeing some improvement in the models for the weekend, but there are still some rain chances we’ll need to keep an eye on. We’re lowering the rain chances quite a bit for Saturday, so there should be plenty of dry hours through the day. A few spotty showers and thunderstorms can’t be ruled out. It will be warmer and more humid, with highs pushing close to 80°. The same applies for Sunday. The system we’ve been tracking looks like it may end up just missing our area, which should limit the rain chances. While the rain chance is not zero, it is lower, and any rain would likely be isolated during the afternoon and early evening hours. A small disturbance moving through starting Memorial Day and into next week could bring some pop-up shower and thunderstorm chances with daytime heating, but nothing significantly organized is expected for the first half of next week. Above-average temperatures are looking to settle in starting this weekend and will likely continue through next week and through the end of the month. ...read more read less
