Shakespeare Theatre Company has announced that DC actors Felicia Curry and Renea Brown will reprise their roles as guest performers at STC’s annual Will on the Hill benefit event. Brown made her Will on the Hill debut last year, and Curry (most recently in STC’s Merry Wives) returns aft er previously taking part in 2024. The actors join Washington VIPs and Members of Congress for a light-hearted performance showcasing popular Shakespearean passages and sharing stories of the impact of the arts on their lives. The bipartisan event will take place on Monday, June 8, at STC’s Harman Hall. For over two decades, Will on the Hill has brought the Hill to the stage as a fundraiser for STC’s learning programs for youth, fostering bipartisan support for education and the arts. STC reaches nearly 20,000 students, teachers, and community members every year through learning and community programs, and STC Learning serves public, private, and home schools across the DMV with intensive School Residencies, a semester-long free experience that pairs an STC Artist with a classroom to explore a classic play. This year, Will on the Hill kicks off with a networking reception featuring theatrical behind-the-scenes stations, including a live props demonstration. Following that, guests will move into Harman Hall for lively readings of Shakespearean scenes by Members of Congress in a playful “talent show” of words. The evening also includes a stage combat demonstration from representatives of STC Academy, as well as sharings by current STC Learning students showcasing their recent classroom work on various Shakespeare plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet. It is all brought together by Aïsha Sidibé, STC’s Senior Director of Learning. A post-show reception will conclude the evening with drinks and bites featuring American BBQ fare. The cast will feature both new and returning Will on the Hill participants, including Marla Allard, DC Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6), Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT), Jon Beal, Olivia Beavers, Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL), Rich Edson, Mike Evans, DC Councilmember Wendell Felder (Ward 7), DC Councilmember Christina Henderson (At-Large), James Hohmann, Bess Kaye, Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL), Faith Lee, Mara Liasson, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, Grover Norquist, Rep. Andrea Salinas (D-OR), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV), Rep. Eugene Vindman (D-VA), and Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-VA).* Will on the Hill is free and by invitation only. It has been designed to meet all Congressional ethics standards. *Participants subject to change. ABOUT SHAKESPEARE THEATRE COMPANY For 40 years, the Tony Award-winning Shakespeare Theatre Company has been recognized as the nation’s premier classical theater. Classical plays are realized best not by originalism but by walking the path Shakespeare himself followed, creating works that spoke to his own contemporary audience. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Simon Godwin and Executive Director Angela Lee Gieras, STC tells vital stories in audacious forms, stories that are Shakespearean in the deepest sense, even if, and especially when, they are not written by Shakespeare. By focusing on works with profound themes and complex characters, STC’s artistic mission is unique among regional theaters: to bring to vibrant life groundbreaking, thought-provoking, and eminently accessible theater. ...read more read less
