FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The National Weather Service says another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move through northeast Indiana Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the greatest risk focused along and south of U.S. 24. Forecasters have placed much of the region under a “Sli ght Risk” (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather from 3 p.m. through 11 p.m. Tuesday. The Weather Service says damaging winds up to 60 mph and heavy rainfall will be the primary threats. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible. According to the latest briefing from the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, confidence is considered medium for severe weather development Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially across areas east and south of Fort Wayne. Meteorologists say the highest severe weather threat will stretch across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, particularly communities along and south of U.S. 24. Fort Wayne remains under a Slight Risk during the late afternoon and evening hours, while Lima, Ohio, could see an even greater storm potential during the same timeframe. The Weather Service is urging residents to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio, smartphone alerts, weather apps, and local media. In addition to the storm threat, hot and humid conditions are expected Tuesday with heat index values approaching 90 degrees in parts of the area. Forecasters recommend staying hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing, limiting strenuous outdoor activity, and never leaving children or pets inside vehicles. WOWO will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day and provide updates as watches and warnings are issued.
