We are sweating through the next couple of days with highs pushing the upper 90s before a big cooldown finally moves in by Thursday. On Monday, May 18, 2026, temperatures reached 96 degrees in the Philadelphia region by the afternoon, breaking the previous record of 94 degrees that was set on Ma y 18, 1962. Along with the heat, many neighborhoods are dealing with poorer air quality and sensitive groups should limit their time outdoors. The heat and air quality issues will continue on Tuesday. After that heat wave, temperatures crash back into the 60s just in time for the weekend, but it comes with scattered showers sticking around for several days. If you’ve been waiting for a break from the heat, this weekend is definitely going to feel a lot more comfortable. Early next week, temperatures slowly climb back into the 70s and low 80s with a few more spotty rain chances hanging around. So basically — summer makes a loud entrance, takes a quick break, then tries to sneak back in again by next week.
