FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — Police say a driver running a red light died after crashing into a box truck, causing the car to catch on fire early Monday morning. The crash happened just before 5 a.m. in the area of Lafayette Street and McKinnie Avenue. Witnesses told police a silver Chrys ler crashed into a box truck, the Chrysler eventually catching on fire. The crash and fire trapped the driver inside the vehicle, police say. Firefighters successfully extinguished the car, but the driver died from their injuries. Witnesses also told investigators that the Chrysler reportedly ran a red light, crossed the center line, and hit the box truck. The box truck driver only sustained minor injuries, and was cooperating with detectives. Speed is thought to be a factor in the crash.
