Strong winds in Santa Rosa turn deadly and also leave one person injured

Strong winds exceeding 40 mph in Santa Rosa left a man dead and a woman with major injuries, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.
The fire department said them, along with the police department, had been responding to multiple wind-related incidents across, starting at around 3 p.m. They
said the city’s Remote Automated Weather Stations recorded wind gusts exceeding 40 mph in the city’s weather dashboard.
According to authorities, during the wind event, a man was struck by a falling tree branch on Howard Street and suffered major injuries. Officials said the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
In a separate incident, the fire department reported a 23-year-old woman was struck by another branch on Steele Lane and sustained major injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she is being treated, according to officials.
The fire department added crews responded to more than 15 wind-related incidents, and numerous power outages were also reported in the city.
