Strong winds exceeding 40 mph in Santa Rosa left a man dead and a woman with major injuries, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department. The fire department said them, along with the police department, had been responding to multiple wind-related incidents across, starting at around 3 p.m. They said the city’s Remote Automated Weather Stations recorded wind gusts exceeding 40 mph in the city’s weather dashboard. According to authorities, during the wind event, a man was struck by a falling tree branch on Howard Street and suffered major injuries. Officials said the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died. In a separate incident, the fire department reported a 23-year-old woman was struck by another branch on Steele Lane and sustained major injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she is being treated, according to officials.
