PGE shuts off power to hundreds in Contra Costa County due to fire risk
May 17, 2026
With the high winds, low humidity and elevated fire risk, PGE had turn off power to some parts of the Bay Area with “Public Safety Power Shutoffs” on Sunday. A couple of hundred people in Contra Costa County were impacted, according to fire officials.
One of those impacted areas is Camino Tas
sajara just outside Danville. Power went out on a stretch of the road at around 1 p.m., after PGE said it was going to cut power to help prevent wildfires.
Ranchers in the area were making plans for how to care for their horses over the next couple of hours; some were upset about the loss of power, while others were glad to avoid the fire risk.
PGE says it hopes to restore power to this area by 2 p.m. Monday.
