Firefighters battled two vegetation fires on Saturday as red flags warnings are still in effect in parts of the Bay Area. Firefighters quickly contained a fire that broke out on Rio Vista that burned around 25 acres. The scene was mopped up and cleared by the evening. “That was one of the ar ea’s of concern, because you get really strong winds down there, and you have, in the period that we are in right now, we are starting to see things starting to dry out,” Cal Fire PIO Jason Clay said. The official cause of this fire has not been determined by Solano County fire officials, but a Rio Vista firefighter who helped fight the fire told NBC Bay Area exhaust from farming equipment could have sparked the fire. Firefighters also battle the Tombs Fire near Geyserville in Sonoma County, which burned around 10 acres. The Tombs Fire was rekindled from embers inside a landowner’s burn pile from April. “So that just goes to show the landowner was trying to do the right thing and create some defensible space – add some fire resilience around their property – and the winds sparked up that wildfire,” Clay said. Clay says it’s best to get that work done before red flag warnings are in effect, even if your property isn’t officially inside the warning area. “There’s still fire danger, so even Sonoma and Napa counties, that aren’t under the red flag warning, you know that possibility still exists,” he said. Those red flag warnings remain in effect, especially in the coastal range, throughout the San Joquin Valley and West Side Hills through Monday at 8 p.m. PGE is monitoring large parts of the region for possible public safety power shutoffs. ...read more read less
