One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a Chula Vista Police Department checkpoint, the department reported Saturday.
Police conducted a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in the 300 block of East H Street in Chula Vista from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, police said in
a statement.
Of the 4,310 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint, 795 were screened and two drivers were given a field sobriety test, police said. “DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” the CVPD statement said. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
