A family is asking for prayers after a woman’s mother and aunt were killed in a crash on Interstate 75 in Broward County, Florida, and her 9-month-old daughter was left critically injured. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on Mother’s Day, around 10:45 a.m. o n I-75 northbound near Mile Marker 20. NBC Miami on Saturday spoke with Felipe Guzman and Mónica Villarreal. “We started the day beautiful, man,” Guzman said. “The girls got all dressed in yellow. You know, my wife’s first Mother’s Day.” During Villarreal’s first Mother’s Day, she was surrounded by her mother and aunt. She said they flew in from Ecuador to help her with the baby because Villarreal recently underwent surgery for thyroid cancer. The day was meant to be beautiful, but it turned into tragedy. “I remember my wife screaming,” Guzman said. This family was inside one of the five vehicles in the major crash on I-75. “I keep hearing my wife screaming, ‘Where’s my mother?’ because she was ejected out of the car,” he said. Florida Highway Patrol officials said a driver had traveled to the area to assist a family member whose vehicle had become disabled and was on the wrong side of the roadway when the crash happened. Two women, ages 58 and 60, who were occupants in a Honda Pilot, were killed as a result, FHP officials said. Deputies said four people were taken to the hospital by ground, while the child, who is less than a year old, was airlifted after suffering from cardiac arrest. FHP officials said the child was in critical condition. Authorities arrested one of the drivers involved, Cira Wuinones Lewis. Investigators said she was driving with a suspended license and was in the country illegally. “I think it should be more than a suspended license,” Guzman said. “Two beautiful souls passed. My daughter’s in critical, and other people were injured.” This family is now asking for prayers. “Were praying for a miracle, Guzman said. A live prayer service will be held on TikTok at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the family has also started a GoFundMe. ...read more read less
