May 16, 2026
The Swatch store at the King of Prussia Mall was closed Saturday after hundreds of people tried to enter the business ahead of its new watch release, police say.
Police said around 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, officers learned that a group of “several hundred” people were attempting to enter t
he mall ahead of the launch of the new Swatch watch.
Authorities said officers told the group that they needed to move back from the doors and stop trying to enter the closed business, but according to police, the crowd continued to grow and “became more defiant.” For this reason, additional police resources were deployed, with around 100 officers ultimately handling the scene.
Police said officers dispersed the main group, but others continued to try to enter the mall, breaking down doors.
One person was arrested and accused of defiant trespassing and related charges following the disturbance, according to police.
No injuries were reported.
The disturbance prompted the mall’s closure until 12 p.m. Police said the Swatch store will not open on Saturday.
A man who went to the mall and waited in line on Saturday shared with NBC10 a picture of the sign posted on the store’s door that says it will remain closed Saturday and Sunday. The sign also says the new watch will not be sold at that location.
Several Swatch stores across the country were forced to close on Saturday due to the “extraordinarily high demand” of the new Bioceramic Royal Pop Collection, which prompted massive crowds to gather outside the stores, according to the company.
“Some of our stores had to be closed in accordance with our security staff and local authorities to ensure a safe environment for everyone,” the company wrote in a Facebook post.
