Contra Costa County Fire officials said they’ll be keeping a close eye on fire conditions a high wind and a Red Flag Warning affecting parts of Northern California.
A Red Flag Warning this weekend is impacting parts of the Bay. The warning begins at 5 a.m. Saturday and lasts through Monday nigh

Fire agencies say the combination of wind, dry conditions and higher temperatures are enough to stay ready.
“As a district when it’s wildfire season, we’re going to make sure we’re staffing our wildland apparatus, we’re going to make sure our water tenders are available…and any other equipment we need,” said Captain Victor Daniel with the Contra Costa County Fire Prevention.
PGE is also monitoring parts of Northern California for possible public safety power shutoffs, as utilities watch for winds that could increase fire danger.
In July 2024, a brush fire in Bay Point burned dangerously close to homes. The signs of Bay Point Fire are still easy to see two years later.
For Kevin Pereyra, who moved in just a few months earlier, it was a frightening introduction to wildfire season in Contra Costa County.
“As I was evacuating, I was kind of looking in the backyard and I see the flames on top of the hill and I was like ‘Oh no…it’s coming’,” he said.
His neighbor Wayne still has pink stains on his car from the retardant.
“It’s really scary because we saw the burn marks and neighbor said it came 60 yards from its backyard,” he said.
Residents who have already lived through a close call understand the importance of staying prepared.
“Now it’s something we do have to think about everyday. We actually bought stuff for us to take that’s fire-proof,” Pereyra said.
“It’s a wakeup call to really think again because we were really scrambling,” Wayne said.
