Sometimes, things don’t go well for you. Other times, so many things go poorly that your best option is to move on and forget about what happened as quickly as possible. The San Diego Padres should probably choose the latter approach after Thursday’s 7-1 loss to the Brewers in Milwaukee. Star ting pitcher Griffin Canning had a miserable outing. After striking out the first batter he faced, Canning lost his command with four consecutive walks to give the Brewers a run before they had a hit … something they got from Luis Rengifo, who singled up the middle to bring home two more runs and make it 3-0. In the 2nd inning Canning regained his ability to find the strike zone, but he wasn’t missing many bats. A pair of singles and two doubles put the Brew Crew on top 6-0 and Canning’s day was done after just 1.2 innings. If there’s one positive it’s the San Diego bullpen. Ron Marinaccio, Yuki Matsui, and Matt Waldron combined to cover 6.1 innings while allowing one run and striking out nine. But, a San Diego lineup that had seven hits, struck out 10 times (three by Fernando Tatis Jr.), and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position was not going to make any late comebacks this time. The Padres head to Seattle for a three game series to finish the 2026 Vedder Cup series starting Friday night with Randy Vasquez on the mound against Emerson Hancock. Sunday’s game at T-Mobile Park starts at 4:20 p.m. and will be broadcast on Peacock. You can see live postgame coverage from Seattle on NBC 7’s “Sports Night in San Diego” starting at 7:00 p.m. ...read more read less
