As the Miners boys lacrosse team has done for much of its season, they cruised to a 13-3 victory over Green Canyon on Friday night, Park City’s senior night, at the fields at Quinn’s Junction. Dominant first and third quarters, where the Miners outscored their then 14-3 opponent 9-1, fueled the victory.  Six Park City seniors, of the 17-man class, found the scoresheet with at least a goal or assist. Of that group, Wade Birch led the Miners with five points on three goals and two assists.  Park City senior Hunder Hutchison had a goal and two assists in Friday’s win, one of six seniors to record at least a goal or assist. Many bided their time behind strong classes before them to get on the field. The Miners are the top seed in the 5A playoffs, and will open their quest for a state title on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Westminster University’s Dumke Field against the winner of Tuesday’s game between Northridge and Maple Mountain. Persky said the boys and girls teams were unable to secure usage of the Quinn’s Junction fields during the second round game times. “We had no choice,” Persky said. “We thought it would be really positive for the boys and girls to play back-to-back in a really nice venue like Westminster.”  The two Park City teams will be hoping for strong crowd support at Westminster like they have received in playoff games past. The state semifinals are traditionally held at Westminster and will be again this season.  “We’re pretty familiar with Westminster,” Persky said. “We’ve had a lot of success there. … It’s a really nice venue and Westminster has extended some great hospitality to us.” Persky said his team needs to play their brand of lacrosse and not fret too much over their opponents.  If the Miners win Thursday, they’ll likely face rival Olympus in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Park City has ended the last four seasons for Olympus.  “We have some seniors now who were part of that freshman class that won that last state championship,” Persky said about the Miners last state title in 2023. “Last year in particular was pretty disappointing to lose the way that we did. These guys are looking for their chance to win state.” Birch said, “That’s our expectation this year, that’s what we’re trying to do. And anything short would be disappointing.” Miners senior Harper Brent said the team won’t be overlooking any opponents this postseason. So this year, we’ve made sure to really focus in on that and win every game by as much as possible.” The post Miners boys lacrosse secures a senior night victory on Friday appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
